IRIS: Interactive Repository Interface Services

This paper describes an ongoing effort to provide a complete, integrated, interactive graphical database interface that enables users to do real work. The facilities provided include:

  • Schema specification
  • Schema modiication
  • Database browsing
  • Query

The interface to all these facilities is centered around a graphical display of the datahase schema. The ideas described in this paper have been very influential and have found their way into several projects, prototypes and products.
